The annual Mad Monster Party horror convention returns to Charlotte, North Carolina for its third incarnation this weekend, featuring over 30 celebrity guests, including William Shatner (Star Trek, The Twilight Zone), Corey Feldman (Dream a Little Dream, The Goonies), Henry Winkler (Happy Days, Scream), and Elvira (Mistress of the Dark), in addition to three days of film screenings, Q&A panels, and more.
The horror comedy Smothered, written and directed by John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard), will have its world premiere screening Friday night, while pro wrestlers Hulk Hogan and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper will renew their classic feud from the ’80s during a special panel to be moderated by “Mean” Gene Okerlund on Sunday.
Other guests set to attend include Caroline Williams (Days of Thunder), Heather Lagenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Sid Haig (The Devil’s Rejects), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead), and Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Picture Show), among many others.
Many of the guests have interesting ties to North Carolina, including Elvira, who worked in Charlotte on Stoker Ace (1983); Henry Winkler, who worked in Wilmington on One Christmas (1994); John Schneider, who worked in Union County on Bandit: Bandit Bandit (1994) and in Elizabeth City on Desperate Journey: The Allison Wilcox Story (1993); Barry Bostwick, who worked in Wilmington on A Different Kind of Christmas (1996); Hulk Hogan, who worked in Wilmington on Muppets from Space (1999); and Corey Feldman, who worked in Wilmington on Dream a Little Dream (1989) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990).
NC Film News will be attending all three days of the convention, and we are excited to bring you special extended coverage of the entire event this weekend!
